VETASSESS Skills Assessment: A Guide for Professionals
Thinking about relocating to Australia and making a fresh start? The truth is that a lot of skilled workers do not really know how to demonstrate that their experience is at the level of the Australian standards. A VETASSESS skills assessment is a necessity in such a case. If you do not get a positive outcome, your chances for a skilled visa are going to be very few.
Do you need a VETASSESS Skills Assessment?
If your profession is part of the Skilled Occupation Lists of Australia under the VETASSESS categories A, B, or C, then a VETASSESS skill assessment is necessary for you. There are many professionals, for example, HR advisers, marketers, analysts, managers, designers, and social workers, who belong to these categories.
Your ANZSCO code is essentially the one that points to your work. It is a description of the duties that you need to demonstrate in your evidence. In case your duties differ, the assessor will not be able to grant your application.
In case you are not certain of your code, have a look at the official occupation list. More than 200 jobs each year are dependent on a VET Assessment, particularly for visas like 189, 190, and 491.
Eligibility Requirements and Document Standards
Your qualification should be in line with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). In a majority of cases, this will be a university degree of at least bachelor's level. Along with that, you must also have at least one year of experience that is additionally qualified, full-time and post-qualification. Certain job positions might need a higher number of years.
It is assumed that full-time work is approximately 38 hours a week. If you had a part-time job or were working as a freelancer, you need to convert your hours to full-time equivalents.
The incorrect or mismatched documents are one of the major reasons why applicants are unsuccessful in their VETASSESS skills assessment.
Full Assessment vs. Priority Processing
Normally, a VETASSESS skills assessment for a standard VETASSESS takes approximately 10 to 12 weeks.
By paying an additional fee, the priority processing will shorten the waiting time to about 5 7 weeks. There is a limitation of certain occupation groups for which priority processing is allowed, so it is advisable to verify before filing a request.
If you don't have much time with your visa and you must be very fast then only select priority. In any other case, the normal way is fine.
