is PEO?
PEO, Professional
Engineers Ontario, is the licensing body that controls the practice of
professional engineering in the province. It ensures that only qualified
persons who meet the requirements and standards set forth can practice
engineering in Ontario.
Why
is PEO Important in Becoming a P.Eng?
A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is a
person who has met the course and experience requirements of PEO. This means
that they are competent and knowledgeable engineers who can pursue their
interests or careers in various fields.
What
are the Basic Eligibility Requirements to Become a PEO?
There are three
fundamental requirements of eligibility in Ontario to be licensed as a professional
engineer:
Education:
An applicant must have a bachelor's degree in engineering with a program
accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board or equivalent
foreign accreditation.
Experience:
The candidate must undergo 48 months of acceptable engineering work experience
under the supervision of an engineer.
Good
Character: An individual must be of good character and
ethical conduct in both professional and private matters.
Professional
Practice Exam: The applicant must sit for one exam
in order to be licensed to practice engineering. The applicant's understanding
of professional practice is assessed by this test.
